The Boer goat is a very new animal in the United States. The first full-blood South African Boer goats were imported to the United States in 1993. The first Boer goats that came to the United States were actually imported from New Zealand. These Boer goats that were being raised in New Zealand had actually been imported to New Zealand from Zimbabwe.

Boer was selectively improved for its meat production ability and its ability to pass on that trait to its offspring, along with other traits including pasture hardiness . With the addition of a Boer buck to a commercial meat goat herd can improve the meat characteristics of the offspring without making them too “soft” to be pasture goats.
What is the Boer Goat Personality?
They are the gentle giants of the goat world that is prized for their meat, but are now also being used as companion animals. In spite of their size, Boer goats are notoriously calm and docile, but there are a few that do not meet this description .
